– Ik ga op pad, langs het geasfalteerde fietspad over de kaarsrechte dijk naar de Rijnlanderweg, het weiland in. Onderweg verzamel ik een grasspriet, wat spinrag, een krulletje schapenvacht, algen uit het water en een schapenkeutel. Ik beland bij een wat stinkende sloot vol ondefinieerbaar gepruttel en voel de drang om mijn hand diep in de glibberige modder te steken. In plaats daarvan vis ik onhandig een kloddertje op en berg het op in een glazen sampleflesje. 14:25 – De verzamelde samples maak ik klaar voor verdere inspectie op microniveau. Algen, haren, hout, bladeren; allen tuimelen ze over elkaar heen, gestapeld, vervlochten, uiteen gescheurd en weer vastgeklit. De micro-organismen scheuren met hoge snelheid door de woestenij van celstructuren. Alles slijmerig, zacht, plakkerig, stekelig, nat en harig leeft door-, in- en met elkaar als een groot verweven leven. 15:30 – Ik kijk op van mijn microscoop en uit het raam zie ik het gigantische glazen gebouw tegenover de bunker. Het hek dat er rondom staat vertelt mij dat deze plek niet bedoeld is voor het verweven van leven. Hier is men op vaste tijden, voor vaste taken en vaste omgangsvormen. Niets loopt door elkaar of is vergroeid met elkaar. De mensen houden van orde in een wereld die gebouwd is op chaotisch fundament. 11 juni – 2 juli 2022 Gedurende de drie weken dat ik hier verbleef werd Hoofddorp voor mij de belichaming van een hoekige rechtlijnigheid, gebouwd volgens een menselijk stramien van orde, met de wetenschap dat de chaos die zich onder mijn microscoop openbaarde als een constante factor door blijft rommelen onder onze voeten. Deze vreemde dualiteit in de omgeving van de Batterij aan de Sloterweg is de drijvende kracht achter de serie sculpturen die hier te zien is. De mix tussen hoekig en vloeiend, anorganisch en organisch, solide en fluïde, chaotisch en ordelijk stimuleerde mij te zoeken naar hoe—en in welke vorm—deze werelden te verweven. Collaboration with Dewi Vingerling Seeking to combine an art practice that evolves around the bodily presence and its constantly altering nature with one that focuses on angelic creatures and mythological stories, we stumbled upon the tales of the tree people. "With its roots buried deep in the earth, its trunk above ground, and its branches stretching toward the sky, a tree serves as a symbolic, living link between this world and those of supernatural beings. In many myths, a tree is a vital part of the structure of the universe." Through a process of collaborative research and hours of experiments with different materials, we constructed an ode to the ritualistic character of mythological stories. The hidden bodily structures and the fragile composition evoke a feeling of suspense; resembling an abandoned stage where perhaps a divine intervention took place. Using these myths and their symbolism as a foundation, we merged our practices and built this installation. The heavy ceramic shapes form a firm base, a visible connection to the soil, to the ground.
